Staring out the tiny window of my cell, I let out a sigh.
The sky had been overcast for days. The dim light that trickled in matched my gloomy mood.

As I was deep in thought, the sound of footsteps suddenly echoed from outside. I quickly turned and caught sight of Caleb’s tall, upright figure.
He looked noticeably more worn out than when I last saw him. His face was pale, his eyes red and weary, with a hint of sorrow in his gaze.
Clearly, he hadn’t had much rest recently.
Feeling a wave of concern, I walked up to the bars and asked with worry in my voice, “Honey, how have you been these past couple of days?”

Caleb responded with a reassuring smile, “Don’t fret. Everything’s under control out here. Nothing important has happened. If all goes as planned, you’ll be out of here soon.”
Seeing his composed demeanor convinced me he wasn’t hiding anything, and I felt a sense of relief wash over me. It was evident Caleb’s exhaustion stemmed from his relentless efforts.
I advised, “Try to get some rest when you can, okay? Look after yourself and don’t overdo it.”
“Alright. Don’t worry, I’ll make sure to take care of myself,” Caleb promised, his smile never fading.
Then I asked, “By the way, how are Elena and Dylan? How’s everything going with their daily lives and school?”
I was not just concerned about their safety. I was also worried they would face discrimination because of me once they started kindergarten.
It was important to pay attention to children’s mental well-being.
